Organizational Setting

The project “The Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs)” aims to reduce the threat posed by emerging, transboundary, and endemic pathogens through enhanced capabilities for preparedness, early detection, risk mitigation strategies, and control of transboundary animal diseases (TADs) of high security concern in target countries across Africa, South East Asia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The need to control TADs at the source of infection prior to the spread of the disease was recognized as a priority by the Food and Agriculture of United Nations (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Effective and sustainable control of TADs require regional and international approaches, and the FAO/OIE Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) initiative launched in 2004 provides the appropriate concepts and objectives as well as an organizational framework to link international and regional organizations at the service of their countries.
