Programme Manager - Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace
The Programme Manager will support the Foundation’s core programmatic activities as laid out in the Strategic Framework 2018-20 and annual work programmes and provide input to the development of future plans. The position will be primarily focused on the formulation and implementation of work related to the Foundation’s thematic area of Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace.
Priorities within this area include:
· The Foundation supports the implementation of the Sustaining Peace resolutions (SCR 2282 – GA 70/262) and the UN’s efforts to promote prevention.
· The Foundation aims to facilitate policy discussions on issues related to inclusivity in peacebuilding with a particular focus on women, youth and marginalised groups.
· The Foundation supports dialogue and mediation for the prevention and resolution of violent conflict, including training initiatives in this area and analysis on the implementation of peace agreements.
As with all of its programmatic work, the initiatives within the Foundation’s work on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace are inherently linked and integrated with efforts in the other three thematic areas: multilateralism and international norms and governance; implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and Repositioning of the UN System.
Responsibilities and Tasks
· Implement the Foundation’s current and future Strategic Frameworks through development and coordination of activities and projects related to supporting implementation of the UN Sustaining Peace resolutions; inclusivity in peacebuilding and development; and dialogue and mediation.
· Manage and coordinate programmatic work, including planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning of the assigned projects and activities.
· Organise and facilitate seminars and meetings in relation to assigned projects(s).
· Author and edit material (articles, policy papers, reports) related to the assigned projects(s).
· Ensure programmatic operations and activities adhere to internal policies and guiding principles of the Foundation.
· Participate and represent the Foundation in official meetings.
· Coordinate and support to projects and activities across all thematic focus areas of the Foundation.
· Participate in teams working on strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation of the Foundation’s activities.
· Master’s degree in a relevant field (eg international relations, political science, global studies), or similar qualifications otherwise acquired.
· Minimum of ten years of work experience relevant to the thematic focus of the position.
· Professional experience in project or programme management, implementation and support working with intergovernmental organisations or civil society. Knowledge of UN system processes related to peacebuilding and development.
· Experience in implementing or supporting peacebuilding or development activities at country or regional level is required.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Other language skills, including Swedish and/or one of the working languages of the UN are desired.
· Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced international environment with limited supervision.
· Detail-oriented skills and the ability to take initiative to develop activities and programmatic work.
· Open-mindedness, flexibility, the ability to be a good team player, and an understanding of the work of a values-based organisation.
· Willingness and ability to participate in limited international travel.
Reporting and Relations
· The Programme Manager will report to a Programme Director.
· Internal: Support to staff engaged in programmatic work. Collaboration takes place mostly within project teams, but the Programme Manager will also work closely with the Communications Team and administrative staff.
· External: Collaboration with partners and external consultants as relevant to programmatic work
Terms of employment
· The Programme Manager will be based at the Foundation’s main office in Uppsala, Sweden. Candidates will need to have permission to work in Sweden as the Foundation is unable to sponsor a visa.
· The position is temporary for a two-year period, with six months of probation. The salary will be determined based on the individual’s experience and qualifications.
· The Foundation offers generous holidays benefits. Employees up to 29 years of age are allocated 28 days of leave, from 30 years 31 days and from 40 years 35 days.
· Pensions are stipulated in the Foundation’s Pensions Policy.
· Wellness allowance amounting to 3000 SEK/year based on full-term employment.
