The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Communication comprises Web Editorial, Social Media News and Campaigns, Digital Governance and Platforms teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling. DSS is looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to help UNICEF in the process of implementing its global web platforms for external communications. The Senior Technical Project Manager will: • Timely plan, coordinate, produce and execute projects of transition and rolling out the websites in the Drupal platform; • Coordinate all project participants from site owners to DOC managers and other stakeholders; • Provide additional project tracking, co-ordination and reporting as required; • Assist in troubleshooting, testing and documenting the Drupal platform.

The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Communication comprises Web Editorial, Social Media News and Campaigns, Digital Governance and Platforms teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. The Digital Strategy Section is also responsible for the build, management and maintenance of global website properties, as well as providing support to Country and Regional (field) Offices to maximize their use of global web platforms in their communications activities. This role is instrumental in ensuring our large and globally distributed user base has access to web platforms, and is supported to use these platforms to publish high quality content that is critical to their communications work.

How can you make a difference?

DSS is looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to help UNICEF in the process of implementing its global web platforms for external communications.

Expected results: (measurable results)

 The Senior Technical Project Manager will:

  • Timely plan, coordinate, produce and execute projects of transition and rolling out the websites in the Drupal platform;
  • Coordinate all project participants from site owners to DOC managers and other stakeholders;
  • Provide additional project tracking, co-ordination and reporting as required;
  • Assist in troubleshooting, testing and documenting the Drupal platform.

 Description of the assignment

 The Senior Technical Project Manager will perform the following activities:

  • Manage the progress of the rollout of the transition from the legacy CMS platform to new global Drupal platform;
  • Collect and coordinate project requirements, goals, dependencies and resources;
  • Act as the project focal point for all activities related to the rollout of the new web platform;
  • Monitor actual transition and roll-out progress against plans and conduct risk analysis and mitigation when necessary;
  • Report project status to supervisors and project stakeholders;
  • Coordinate reviews with stakeholders;
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of project plans with supervising staff to ensure adequate human and other resources are appropriately provided;
  • Maintain project documentation;
  • Establish tools and processes for project and resource management for the project team;
  • Support training of Digital Strategy team on effective use of new methodologies and processes for web project management;
  • Assist the design team in tracking and managing design projects;
  • Assist in testing and coordinating user acceptance and quality assurance processes;
  • Assist in documenting functional aspects of the Drupal platform;
  • Assist in providing level 2 and level 3 support in troubleshooting functional and content related platform issues;
  • May be asked to work on weekends;
  • May be asked to travel;
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

A professional and educational background or related to project management including:

  • Advanced university degree in communication, web development, new media, development, international communications and/or related, extensive training and experience in digital communications and project management, or an undergraduate degree plus at least 2 years of demonstrated professional experience in the field of the technical project management;
  • A minimum of eight years of technical project management experience working with websites or development of digital products and related projects.

Extensive knowledge and experience in the domain of web, Drupal CMS and project management including:

  • Knowledge of web technologies and experience with creation of websites in the enterprise environment; web-savvy is an absolute requirement;
  • Experience in building sites with Drupal as web content management system;
  • Degree or certification in Project Management a plus;
  • Experience working on enterprise-level web projects with localization and multiple users and groups;
  • Experience working with various project management methodologies;
  • Experience in managing design projects a plus;
  • Must have strong people skills and be a good diplomatic communicator;
  • Must be very well organized and detail oriented.

The ability to work in a global, international environment, including:

  • Work experience in a non-profit organization is a plus;
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant's household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4. At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage
