The Immigration Intern provides assistance to qualified individuals seeking immigration legal services. The Immigration Intern works under the guidance of the BIA accredited representative, and in close cooperation with other immigration staff, the ESL/Civics Instructors (where applicable), and the Volunteer Coordinator.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

·Conduct outreach to local refugee, asylee and immigrant communities about the availability of low-cost immigration legal services.

·Under supervision of a DOJ accredited representative, screen and assist eligible individuals to file applications and petitions for immigration benefits such as adjustment of status, family reunification, naturalization and others.

·Maintain accurate immigration records and review all files periodically for quality control and to ensure timely application, submissions and follow up on all communications regarding filed petitions. Prepare all files for continued follow-up.

·Adhere to the IRC’s financial accounting and record-keeping policies.

·Maintain accurate project tracking records and submit all report data on time.

·Attend program-related meetings with USCIS, CBOs, and report back to staff.

·Coordinate with Volunteer Coordinator to identify volunteer roles and assign volunteers.
