 The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an Innovation Accelerator Business Operations Consultant position in the INKA division, based in Munich, Germany.

Brief description of WFP Innovation Accelerator, INKA:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger. WFP reaches more than 100 million people every day - delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with smallholder farmers, communities, and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.

The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as one of the 10 organizations worldwide among the Best Workplaces for Innovators 2020 as well as Innovation Team of the Year 2020 for its work in identifying, nurturing, and scaling disruptive start-ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich, Germany, the Innovation Accelerator provides WFP employees, entrepreneurs and start-ups with funding, hands-on support, and access to WFP’s global operations. Through the Innovation Accelerator, WFP is leveraging unprecedented advances in digital innovation - such as mobile technology, artificial intelligence, big data and blockchain - and new business models to transform the way it serves vulnerable communities across the world. In 2019 alone, Accelerator supported innovations that positively impacted the lives of 1.4 million people globally. Most recently, the Accelerator runs programmes for external partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and others.

In our accelerator programme for WFP, we are sourcing the best teams globally, run 1-week high-intensity “innovation bootcamp” trainings and support teams with up to $100K in equity-free funding, hands-on support by our team and access to WFP's global operations in developing countries in our sprint programme. The most promising innovations are supported in scaling further.

  • Expected Start Date: 11.01.2021

    Duties and responsibilities

    The incumbent, reporting to the Head of Business Development WFP Innovation Accelerator, is expected to:
  1. Drive forward core Accelerator talent activities supporting the Head of Business Development:
    1. Contribute to building talent by supporting the recruitment process, including drafting terms of references, reviewing of applications, ensuring interview process completion, and onboarding;
    2. Support learning and development activities by working with managers to understand business requirements and individual skills and to deliver development solutions which equip people with skills/knowledge required to meet current and future needs;
    3. Liaise with headquarters on HR related matters, e.g. contracts, and provide necessary information in order to enable timely HR services;
    4. Provide advice on diverse HR processes and rules, and facilitate relevant action as applicable;
    5. Support relevant stakeholders on HR discussions, such as recruitment strategy, performance issues and growth opportunities;
    6. Create best practices and templates for HR activities, as needed.

  1. Support the innovation accelerator build-up, operations & management:
    1. Collate information and provide analysis & content preparation (PowerPoint presentations, reports, briefs, etc.) for corporate priority topics and executive management meetings;
    2. Liaise with colleagues in other divisions (mainly HR unit) or external stakeholders as needed;
    3. Support core processes of the Innovation Accelerator (e.g. innovation challenge; innovation bootcamps; sprint programme; thought leadership; scale-up enablement) as required;
    4. Support the Head of Business Development, the Head of the Innovation Accelerator, the Director Innovation & Knowledge Management Division with any other activities as required.

Required qualifications and experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree a plus.

Experience:

At least 3 years of experience in human resources in an international development, business or startup-related position.

Required soft skills/WFP Competencies:

  • Experience in a large organization (public or private sector).
  • Proven experience in handling HR processes and concepts, including learning and development activities, preferably in complex international environments.
  • Self-driven and very strong organizational and planning activities.
  • Strong conceptual thinking to develop new strategies & innovative solutions.
  • Able to interact with a broad range of stakeholders and external audience with maturity and tact.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills, with the ability to write best practice documents, to develop project plans and to write and deliver presentations.
  • Interest and a general understanding of technology innovations (e.g. mobile apps, blockchain, artificial intelligence) and business model innovations.
  • Collaborative spirit, able to partner with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Sets high-level of ambition for the project and own work to achieve impact for the hungry people we serve.
  • Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.

Language requirements

  • Fluency in oral and written English is a must. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) or German (location of office) is a plus.

Terms and Conditions:

WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
