BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.  
SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK: The financial coaching intern is a volunteer position to support the IRC in NY’s Providing Opportunities for Women’s Economic Resilience (POWER) program. The POWER program is an economic empowerment program that provides vocational training and career development services to immigrant women in New York City. The aim of the program is to empower low-income refugee, asylee, and other immigrant women in New York City by developing their professional and technical skills to improve their economic well-being. The Women’s Economic Empowerment intern will support the program by providing job coaching and counseling services to program participants, while also supporting training. The ideal candidates will have prior experience in the field of career development preferably in a counseling or coaching role.  
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  
Intern will learn how to effectively manage career programs across a wide network. 
Intern will learn how to provide direct services to immigrant populations. 
Intern will learn how to organize and instruct vocational training course. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Provide one-on-one career coaching and counseling for POWER clients. 
Create resumes, facilitate career development workshops, and prepare POWER clients for interviews 
Track client meetings and progress in spreadsheet and through case noting on ETO software.  
Facilitate monthly financial literacy/education workshops for clients.  
Instruct workshops and vocational training courses as needed  
Work in conjunction with the Economic Empowerment specialist to develop relationships with employment partners and organizations providing financial services in NYC.  
Communicate effectively in person and by telephone. 
Collaborate with other IRC in NY programs as necessary 
Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy.
