PROJECT: E-learning course for Farmer Business School facilitators WORK LOCATION: Remote

The International Potato Center (CIP) seeks an expert to collaborate with the project E-learning course for Farmer Business School facilitators at CIP-Asia.

Abouttheproject: The Farmer Business School (FBS) isa participatory,action learning processfocused on productandbusiness development. The methodology, developed by the International Potato Center (CIP), builds on the CIP Participatory Market Chain Approach (PMCA) and integrates elements of the Farmer Field School methodology to address key constraints to effective market linkages, particularly related to limited business skills and ineffective farmer organizations. Based on practical experience in implementation, the methodology has been enriched over time, for instance, by including climate change and gender consideration in the FBS curriculum. FBS comprises a series of farmer group-based experiential learning activities with trained facilitators over a production-marketing cycle, usually of 8–10 months. The methodology involves farmer groups themselves directly undertaking market assessments and taking the lead on product development for exploiting the identified market opportunities.

Expected duration and conditions:

• This consultancy contract is for 35 working days from May until November 2021.

• The payment is a fixed and consolidated fee.

Objectives:

1) Provide input and ideas in course design and detailed structure

2) Contribute to the preparation of the slides for Unit 1

3) Lead the preparation of slides for Unit 2 and Unit 3

4) Develop the required quizzes for each unit, following the guidance provided by IFPRI

5) Develop the tests for the final exam, following the guidance provided by IFPRI

6) Provide input and ideas for the identification of resource material to be made available to participants 7) Review and provide feedback to the course hardware to be developed by IFPRI

8) Participate in the webinar for the official launch of the e-learning course

Qualifications/special skills:

• Masters or higher degree in Social Science, Value Chain, Postharvest Agronomy or related areas.

• Expert with at least 5 years of proven experience working on international organizations for research and development.

• Familiarity with CIP FBS approach with practical experience in its application in the framework of large development initiatives, development of training material and conduct of relevant training of facilitators.

• Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
