OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The strategic objective of the Global Malaria Programme (GMP) is to support Member States to adopt WHO's malaria-related technical recommendations, and to advance implementation of the Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030 (GTS). The major functions of the department as identified in the 2019 transformation process are: To play a leadership role in malaria, effectively supporting member states and rallying partners to reach Universal Health Coverage and achieve GTS goals and targets; To shape the research agenda and promote the generation of evidence tosupport global guidance for new tools and strategies to achieve impact; To develop ethical and evidence based global guidance on malaria with effective dissemination to support adoption and implementation by national malaria programmes; and To monitor and respond to global malaria trends and threats. The Diagnostics, Medicines & Resistance (DMR) Unit ensures that the most efficient and quality assured diagnostics and efficacious drugs for treatment and prevention are used for the right indications, that GMP is a step ahead in monitoring and responding to drug resistance and parasite deletions, is engaged in the development of new medicines and new diagnostic tools, and contributes to the development of evidence-based consolidated malaria guidance.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The Web Content Officer will be responsible for the following activities: Manage the WHO technical website on malaria (www.who.int/malaria) in all six official languages, including drafting original content in English and French, and managing the departmental newsletter; Optimize the department's web presence, enhance the look and functionality of the website, improve document dissemination strategies, and ensure that all technical pages are up-to-date; Support the document production process ahead of meetings of the Malaria Policy Advisory Committee and other high-priority events for the department, including commissioning official translation of documents, when necessary; Develop compelling visual materials, online databases and maps, and support technical teams with design and data management tasks, working closely with web counterparts in regional offices and at Headquarters; Provide technical support to online consultations and data collection projects, and develop regular performance reports on website usage statistics, with recommendations for improvement; Coordinate translation projects, support ongoing efforts to improve knowledge management, build and manage a departmental photo library, and perform other related tasks requested by the Diagnostics, Medicines & Resistance (DMR) or other departmental units. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First university degree in literature, communications, journalism, international relationsor a related field relevant to the position..
Desirable:

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years of experience in web content management, document production management, communications or journalism, including experience within a UN agency setting. Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
Desirable:

Skills

Excellent knowledge of web-based content promotion, content sharing and networking tools. Strong writing and translation skills, and expert knowledge of design applications. Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate diverse tasks under tight deadlines.Desirable: Familiarity with WHO's web content management system.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4400 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
