The Programme Specialist YPS works with the Adolescent and Youth team of UNFPA, based in the Technical Division. S/he contributes to both policy and programming efforts related to youth, peace and security, including through technical support to UNFPA’s regional and country offices and capacity-building efforts. The Programme Specialist YPS will be engaged in inter-agency initiatives, joint programming efforts and will contribute actively to multistakeholder partnerships with partners from the UN system, civil society, regional organizations and academic institutions.

Job Purpose

Working within UNFPA’s Technical Division at Headquarters, Programme Specialist YPS will contribute to the work of the Adolescent & Youth team and the implementation of UNFPA’s youth strategy My Body, My Life, My World, with a specific focus on youth, peace and security. The Programme Specialist YPS will collaborate with UNFPA teams in multiple regions and countries, and support collaborative relationships with counterparts in the UN system, civil society organizations, Permanent Missions, regional organizations and academic partners, to effectively influence diverse stakeholders to contribute to achieving UNFPA’s mandate.

Education: 

Postgraduate degree in social sciences or related fields, with specialized knowledge in the field of peace and security and/or humanitarian settings.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of peace and security, and/or humanitarian issues, with a focus on young people.
  • Experience in programme/ project management including experience designing and appraising proposals and actively liaising with relevant and potential project partners;
  • Field experience is an asset; 
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of another working language of the UN, preferably French, Arabic or Spanish, is an asset
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds

Languages: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language, preferably French or Spanish, is desirable.
