Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant - GBV.

 About the Job

To provide high-quality survivor centered case-management services to survivors of Gender Based Violence to mitigate the effects of GBV on individuals, and contribute to the prevention, reduction of GBV.

Sector responsibilities: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, child protection initiatives, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, land & property rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for the internally displaced and refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising, facilitation of return and repatriation processes.

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative and technical support

  • Carry out basic tasks within sector area (e.g. data collection)
  • Carry out administrative tasks
  • Follow given work plans and guidelines

Program implementation

  • Identify and receive referrals for GBV survivors and provide tailored GBV case management, including maintaining strict protocols for safety, international and national standards and procedures, confidentiality and consent;
  • When needed, respond to emergency situations;
  • Assist in the design and Facilitation of GBV awareness raising sessions and targeted GBV campaigns;
  • Provide telephone hotline support where relevant;
  • Ensure the maintenance and regular update of case management database and other relevant trackers;
  • Seek support from supervisor to solve complex and particularly sensitive cases;
  • Ensure timely referrals to needed services, follow up and accompaniment where needed.
  • Work closely with PSS and Legal teams to ensure holistic case-management services;
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships, with other DRC departments and participate in protection and GBV mainstreaming across sectors.
  • Follow work-plans as outlined by supervisor

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have a university degree in sociology, social work, international affairs, humanitarian or a related field.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience in administrative tasks
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Experience with following standard procedures and guidelines
  • Advanced Arabic proficiency (Turkish is an asset)
  • Fluency in English language highly desirable
  • Experience working in the humanitarian field (preferably experience from southern Turkey)
  • Experience in protection activities and/or social or health sector
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region
  • Experience working with Syrian refugees
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn from others
  • Previous experience working on gender-specific projects
  • Previous experience in case management
  • Strong communication skills to engage with both refugee and host community

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
