Strategy and Policy Associate

 

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. Working with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled and promotes regional connectivity.

 

AIIB’s Strategy, Policy and Budget (SPB) Department is responsible for: (i) developing and monitoring the implementation of the Bank’s strategic agenda; (ii) developing and overseeing compliance with the Bank’s operational policies and procedures for the Bank’s infrastructure investment operations (non-treasury), including environmental, social, procurement and financial management; (iii) developing and overseeing implementation of relevant policies and procedures related to the Bank’s special funds resources and monitoring the Special Operations; and (iv) developing and monitoring the Bank’s annual business plan to implement the Bank’s strategies and manage the Bank’s administrative budget to support the implementation of the annual business plan.

 

SPB is looking for an Associate to broadly support the department’s work on analytical priorities and special funds including, more specifically, global climate funds; conduct relevant research as well as develop and maintain relevant data systems.

 

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Associate will be to support the Policy Assurance and Operational Quality team in the development and implementation on policy analysis including a focus on the AIIB special funds portfolio by conducting research and analytical work. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct literature and comparative reviews with other similar organizations including acquiring, compiling, organizing and managing qualitative and quantitative data in a systematic manner.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data (financial and non-financial) and provide timely, high-quality and fit-for-purpose information identifying trends, patterns and potential trade-offs on key issues to support data-driven decision-making, including by designing reader-friendly visual presentation tools.
  • Contribute to the drafting and review of strategic level documents being developed for internal and external uses.
  • Support the delivery of management reports, documents, and presentations to effectively communicate Bank strategic direction both internally and externally.
  • Support the identification, management and collaboration with internal and external partners, including by planning/organizing conferences, seminars/meetings.  
  • Support the recruitment and monitoring of consultants and their work.
  • Support the Bank’s project screening process, and support the analysis of the Bank’s investment program.
  • Support the Bank’s engagement with and management of special funds, including global climate funds.
  • Support the development, upgrade and maintenance of relevant IT system and other management tools.
  • Conduct any other work as required by SPB.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience in a similar position in a relevant organization which can include a multilateral development bank (MDBs), international organization, top-tier professional service firm, investment bank, think tank or multinational company.
  • Master's degree or equivalent in economics, public policy, development studies, business administration, statistics, management. 
  • Familiarity with the investment process of MDBs as well as an understanding of trust funds/climate funds would be an advantage.
  • Ability to develop big-picture perspectives while paying strong attention to details.
  • Proven ability to organize and conduct research and analysis on policies, sectors, and markets with demonstrated experience in using spreadsheets and managing, organizing and presenting data.
  • Experience in defining business requirements for IT systems implementation would be an advantage.
  • Outstanding written and verbal English language communication and writing skills.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude; proven ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; ability to think independently while working under supervision; collaborate with other team members and contribute productively to a team’s work and output in a service-oriented manner.
  • High level of personal integrity, self-motivation, sense of responsibility and genuine commitment to corporate values of the AIIB.
