Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation , the "Aviation Sustainability" service leads and manages the Agency’s activities towards the EU and its agencies, ICAO, States and other stakeholders in support to their environment, climate-change and related polities.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Conduct impact assessment and studies on environmental related issues in particular noise.
  • Contribute to the assessment of noise exposure around airports in support to research and operational stakeholders.
  • Research advanced modelling concepts and develop methodologies to enhance existing models.
  • Detect potential advanced features for the existing modelling tools of EUROCONTROL, define new technical requirements, oversee technical developments, and ensure their correct implementation.
  • Prepare and present scientific papers and awareness-raising material at internal or international conferences/fora (e.g. ICAO, ECAC, etc.), workshops, etc. and at trainings.
  • Conduct/review analyses and produce/review reports, technical documentation, briefings, etc. to support decision-making.
  • Follow latest evolutions in area of expertise (noise mainly, but also aircraft performance and emissions modelling), and share the latest knowledge/trends within relevant teams and working groups.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university degree of 3 years plus 1 year of relevant working experience or completed university degree of 4 years. Ideally, candidates should possess a degree in mechanical and acoustic engineering, or similar. Higher level of education would be an asset.
  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant working experience.
  • Experience in noise exposure studies and associated modelling concepts/methodologies related to commercial fixed-wing aircraft is mandatory.
  • Programming skills in at least one of these languages/tools: Python, Java, C/C++, MATLAB would be considered as a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of airport noise management and assessment would be considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge of noise issues and their prediction related to aeroplanes other than fixed-wing types (e.g.: drones/VTOLs/helicopters), associated regulations and methodologies would be considered as an asset.
  • Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment.
  • Professional conduct in line with the corporate behaviours of the Agency, i.e. result-driven, readiness to change, customer focus, integrity and team-player approach.
  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1.  The selected candidate will be required to become basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation  period.
    The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • Duration of appointment: This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year (s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year (s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications .
