As a non-governmental social development organization we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Following the war in Ukraine and the immense humanitarian needs resulting from it, we are looking for an experienced and committed Accountability and Safeguarding Advisor (f/m/d)

 

  • Position title: Accountability and Safeguarding Advisor
  • Duration: until December 2023 with the possibility of extension
  • Working location: Austria Or Poland Or Romania Or Hungary Or Ukraine Or another European country with frequent travels to the region International/Regional Office/Country: Ukraine ERP

Mission 

The Accountability and Safeguarding advisor supports the development of projects within the assigned Member Associations (MAs), ensuring that accountability and safeguarding is mainstreamed at all stages of the project cycle. Leads on Accountability and Safeguarding related deliverables in compliance with donors’ guidelines and international standards. Moreover, s/he leads capacity building initiatives in Accountability and Safeguarding on different levels in the assigned countries and works closely with other colleagues of the Ukraine Emergency Response.

Accountability

  • Lead implementation of the ethical principles in all Accountability processes
  • Draft and regularly update Accountability workplan, validate it with stakeholders
  • Promote and strengthen the understanding of the importance of Accountability within the organization.
  • Ensure technical, programmatic or strategic consultancy in Accountability assignments to the Ukraine humanitarian response team
  • Support with aligning the existing accountability, complaint and feedback mechanisms to international standards at all project locations
  • Ensure implementation of high-quality accountability process, such as consulting and setting-up necessary feedback and complaint channels, ensuring meaningful access to reporting channels, support with investigations through relevant departments and ensure timely and quality response to feedback and complaints received with relevant project teams
  • Support implementation of electronic, mobile data tools and systems wherever needed to improve CFRM or other accountability related processes.
  • Support internal learning, capacity building and facilitate quality improvement in relation to domain of Accountability
  • Carry out or assist in trainings, learning events in regards to Accountability and Child Safeguarding and contribute to relevant project team members’ capacity development
  • Closely coordinate and work together with M&E Advisor on all relevant aspects of MEAL

Safeguarding

  • Ensure that appropriate safeguarding practices are incorporated into all the processes in coordination with SOS Child Safeguarding Team
  • Work with the Logistics Officer to ensure safeguarding is incorporated into procurement practices, including partners contracted
  • Coordinated with the Human Resources Advisor to develop safeguarding protocols for onboarding casual workers, consultants and volunteers
  • Collaborate with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) teams to develop safeguarding guidelines for M&E activities
  • Participate in Global Safeguarding Working Groups and other relevant coordination platforms, including trainings and knowledge networks, and share relevant learnings and tools internal
  • Provide guidance to Member Associations on safeguarding coordination and external engagement at the local level
  • Contribute to the contextual Risk Analysis with regards to safeguarding issues
  • Create an environment amongst colleagues that facilitates the exchange of ideas and collaboration across the sector, identifying potential areas for innovation and influence
  • Experience in conducting internal administrative investigations is welcomed
  • Knowledge of internationally recognized ethical conduct-related; Safeguarding and PSEAH-related standards

Requirements:

  • University degree or equivalent in relevant area, preferably degree in social science, or humanitarian aid
  • At least 5-10 years work experience in the sector of civil society, development or humanitarian aid
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation, accountability, safeguarding, preferably in an emegrency context
  • Several years of work experience in the humanitarian aid and/or development sector
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, work under pressure and cope with stress
  • Experience in establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds and culture
  • Excellent Skills in MS office application (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Proficiency in English; Ukrainian, Russian or Polish are an asset
  • Willingness to potentilly work in a volatile security environment
