Mission and objectives

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency with a mission to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA calls for realization of reproductive rights for all and supports access to a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services, including voluntary family planning, maternal health care and comprehensive sexuality education.

Context

UNFPA Bangladesh has started the implementation of its 10 Country Programme (10 CP) from 2022- 2026 and Gender equality and women’s empowerment is one it’s key programmatic areas to contribute in achieving zero gender based violence. Enabling legal and policy environment and strengthening national and subnational capacities, to address GBV, in particular among vulnerable groups is one of the 10 CP outputs. The Gender Unit will provide technical support to the GO-NGO-Private Sectors’ Implementing partners (IPs) to operationalize the national mechanism to plan, coordinate and monitor the implementation of strategies, policies, and protocols to address gender-based violence and harmful practices. The Gender Unit will also facilitate its IPs to increase availability of and access to information and services to prevent and address GBV and harmful practices, in both development and humanitarian settings. The key activities under these outputs, finalization of a social behaviour change communication plan and tested in selected districts in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA), development/adaptation of advocacy and communications materials to be used for awareness raising and policy advocacy, technical support to the MoWCA to review progress on the costed result framework for the national action plan on VAW, commission a study on sexual harassment at public transport, identification of discriminatory provisions in GBV related laws, and observe national and international days engaging multi-sectoral stakeholders.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer- Gender Component, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Assist to Gender Unit’s advocacy, communication, and knowledge management initiatives; • Assist in reviewing and summarizing various reports for Gender Unit; • Contribute to prepare narratives, concept notes, talking points, presentations and briefings for dif ferent purposes; • Assist to facilitate national and international consultancies to accomplish planned activities (studies, situation analysis, assessment, capacity building and awareness raising initiatives, etc.) of the Gen der Unit; • Assist to coordinate with the individual consultants to conduct studies / situation analysis / assessments as well as to develop subsequent policy documents; • Support to organize meetings, policy dialogues, consultations, training, workshops, learning and knowledge sharing / dissemiantion events, etc. with the internal and external colleagues / partners and prepare meeting proceedings; • Assist to follow up and track progress against the decisions/action points of different meetings; • Assist to document lessons learnt, success cases and good practices and fit them into appropriate knowledge products; • Assist to the communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders; • Undertake field mission in UNFPA supported districts as needed; • Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor. Results/Expected Outputs: • Advocacy and communication products available with Gender Unit. • Assisted GBSS programme implementation. • Contributed to develop narratives, concept notes, presentations and reports. • Necessary field missions undertaken, and mission report produced. • Assisted to organize necessary meetings / events and prepared minutes / reports.
