Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located within the Division of Market Development (DMD), the SME Trade Academy is a one-stop training portal for trade and investment support institutions (TISIs) and SMEs, offering practical, vocational trade-related training online. The SME Trade Academy works with ITC technical sections to develop and deliver online learning in support of its trade-related technical assistance programmes. This means that the Academy must be fully capacitated to carry out course development and delivery functions, as well as develop and manage the implementation of ITC projects. It offers practical, free of charge, vocational training online, with courses ranging from export marketing to supply chain management, e- commerce and access to finance for SMEs. The number of courses and services continuously evolve in order to offer a comprehensive curriculum addressing the particular needs of ITC clients and partners. With 80,000 enrolments in 2019 alone, the SME Trade Academy allows ITC to reach a higher number of trade advisers, TSIs and SMEs than it has been possible through traditional courses.

As a continuation to the programme outcomes and outputs achieved, the programme plans to further develop ITC’s E-Learning and trade training service offering. This will happen through new E- Learning solutions, the refining and adapting current solutions, procedures and processes of course development, learner management approaches, learning management platform technologies, and the implementation of partner institution capacity building on distance training delivery to provide both online and blended, and certified programmes.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Academy Manager and the overall supervision of the Chief of the Section the incumbent will:
• Initiate the design phase and implement the virtual workshopping solutions of the SME Trade Academy.
• Conduct research in view of further improving the virtual workshopping concept of the SME Trade Academy:
• Assist in the coordination of the implementation of SME Trade Academy’s learning solutions including work conducted by of ITC-based and external ITC consultants. Tasks include but not limited to ensuring consultants deliver their outputs on time, monitor the quality for work, organise workshops and meetings, prepare agendas and workshop programmes, and communication with implementation partners.
• Assist in upskilling and training external partners on using the SME Trade Academy’s Learning Management System (LMS).
• Perform s day-to-day administrative tasks related to learner and course support. and assist in the coordination of learner manager activities including the implementation of learner engagement strategies.
• Initiate and coordinate outreach activities for learning-related projects.
• Provide support to the Academy Manager in the promotion of SME Trade Academy solutions.
• Perform other duties as required

Competencies

Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to work with and operate a Learning Management System such as Moodle.

Skills in the use of webinar tools such as Zoom, MS Teams etc. Demonstrated ability to setup E-Learning course pages on a Learning Management System (LMS and prepare an E-Learning event for either synchronous or asynchronous events. Ability to take initiative and self-upgrade skills. Basic skills with HTML/HTML five desirable. Skills in the use of collaboration software such as Google Docs, Mural etc desirable. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities. Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in in the humanities, social studies or related fields is required. A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in the above areas of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree in the specified fields of studies.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of work experience in the field of training to include online learner administration, learner management and course management is required.

Experience in working with a learner management system (such as Moodle) is required.

Previous experience working in the UN common system is desirable.

Languages

For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
