Our team and mission

The Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes, the Leader of the LEO Exploration Group shall manage the Agency’s human spaceflight activities in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and in particular as ESA ISS Programme Manager interface with the NASA ISS Programme and other NASA Managers for negotiations of Technical Understandings as well as represent ESA at the ISS Partner Multilateral Space Station Control Board (SSCB); Chair the Exploitation Management Board (EMB) in accordance with its charter, ensuring that ISS Programme change proposals are responded to in a correct and timely manner; Act as the operational service provider towards the Research and Utilisation Group (HRE-R) to ensure timely, efficient and successful implementation of the ISS Utilisation Programme; Define the Operational Sustaining Engineering functional requirements to support the operations of the Columbus System, Infrastructure and Payloads; among others. 

The Space Training Team is responsible for the training of European and International Partner (NASA, ROSCOSMOS, JAXA, Canadian Space Agency) astronauts about the systems and payloads (experiments) of the Columbus European Laboratory. In addition, the Space Training Team conducts specialist training in Robotics and Space Analogues. As well as astronauts, we also train the Ground Support Personnel, or communicators, who support the operation of payloads on board the ISS.

We are looking for talented, enthusiastic interns with top notch multimedia skills (video, 2D and 3D graphics, design) to be involved in exciting projects in support of our work. You might be involved in making videos that will be watched by astronauts on board the ISS or preparing media for training material for astronauts and the ground-based communicators who support them. Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic: Video and Multimedia Production 

Filming and editing material for production of training and public outreach videos. Developing assorted multimedia (eg. infographics, illustrations, animations) for use in videos, PowerPoint slides, E-Learning and various purposes.

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

Educational knowledge:
An interest in human spaceflight would be an advantage but is not essential as you will develop this. Also advantageous would be an interest in or background in dealing with technical information and science communication, but again, not essential as we will help you. Above all you must be enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated.

Essential skills:
• Proficient in using Adobe CC (especially Premiere) or equivalent
• Good camera and video editing skills
• All around solid multimedia/design skills

Helpful:
• Experience in creating infographics and working with technical/scientific information
• An understanding or experience of online learning and Learning Management Systems and instructional theories
• Experience with rapid authoring tools (e.g. Captivate, Articulate)
