The Role

Reporting to the Program Director, the Community Health System Strengthening Specialist will play a critical role in programming by working across the different community health system strengthening projects of the Last Mile Health Sierra Leone Country Program. This position will equally support the strengthening of the National Community Health Worker Program’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system as well as the program’s Leadership & Governance systems strengthening. In addition to leading technical deliverables in these workstreams, the Specialist will play a critical role in project management, partner coordination, and knowledge management across the projects. Internally, the Specialist  will serve as the Sierra Leone team’s lead on communications, Last Mile Health project & knowledge management, and program strategy and performance. 

This position is only open to candidates who are Sierra Leonean Nationals currently located in Sierra Leone. 

What You'll Do

  • Work with the Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning (MERL) Technical Advisor to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation system of the National Community Health Worker Program - focus areas M&E plan development, community health workers supervision tools development, and performance monitoring system development.
  • Work with the Senior Technical Advisor to strengthen leadership & governance systems of the National Community Health Worker Program - identifying capacity gaps of health system leaders, developing capacity strengthening road map, and supporting the creation of an evidence-informed advocacy plan.
  • Work with the MERL Technical Advisor & Senior Technical Advisor to cultivate, engage, and coordinate partners (e.g. national and subnational government stakeholders, donors, implementing partners, and others) working with LMH to implement programmatic work - partner mapping, partner engagement, and coordination.
  • Provide project management, deliverable tracking, reporting, and knowledge management for collaborative work streams with various partners.
  • Conduct a digital readiness assessment for the National Community Health Worker Program to inform programmatic direction on the use of digital methods for training, data collection, and/or supervision.
  • Coordinate the Sierra Leone team’s contribution to the Last Mile Minute (internal monthly newsletter)
  • Work with the global communications team to plan for and provide Sierra Leone content for external communications deliverables (e.g. coordinating photographers, providing captions for photos, locating interviewees for blogs, etc.); participate in monthly content meetings with the global communications team
  • Serve as Sierra Leone team’s Project and Knowledge Management (PKM) Champion: conduct quarterly spot checks on Sierra Leone team’s Google Shared Drive, represent Sierra Leone team’s perspective in organization-wide PKM forums, ensure Sierra Leone team compliance with organization-wide PKM initiatives
  • Once onboarded, serve as Program Performance and Strategy team contact person leading the coordination of the Sierra Leone team around quarterly deep dives, Objectives & Key Results reviews, updating of the Sierra Leone Country Program dashboard and other knowledge products as needed.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in the field of public health. 
  • Several years of professional experience in one or more of the work areas highlighted to the job summary 
  • Demonstrated experience working within the Sierra Leone national and/or sub-national health system (community health workers program a plus); familiarity with government structures and processes
  • Familiarity with the Sierra Leone Community Health Information System and DHIS2
  • Ability to diplomatically navigate complex stakeholder dynamics,  proactively problem solve to negotiate and achieve results and consensus  with multiple influencers 
  • Demonstrated experience in partner engagement and project management  
  • Comfortable working in teams as well as acting independently in the implementation of specific tasks, prioritizing, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines 
  • Robust knowledge management skills, including the advanced use of MS Office applications and Google Suite

You'll Impress Us If

  • You have a Masters's degree in Public Health or any related field. 
  • Digital health program design or implementation experience       
  • Facilitation of trainings/capacity strengthening for adult learners
  • Knowledge of existing data being tracked in Sierra Leone’s DHIS2, specifically community health data
  • Experience implementing an advocacy agenda with national and subnational government stakeholders

ForSierra Leone, the range is $30,000 - $35,000  depending upon experience doing an equivalent role.
