Under the supervision of the Chief Education, the Education Officer (TA) will support programme preparation, planning and implementation, contributes to the achievement of sustainable results to improve learning outcomes and universal access to quality, equitable and inclusive education in monastic school with support from Akelius Foundation.

Under the supervision of the Chief Education, the Education Officer (TA) will support programme preparation, planning and implementation, contributes to the achievement of sustainable results to improve learning outcomes and universal access to quality, equitable and inclusive education in monastic school with support from Akelius Foundation.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Chief Education, the Education Officer (TA) is required to provide support to UNICEF Bhutan for the partnership with Akelius Foundation by conducting below activities:

  • Support the UNICEF CO, Monastic Education Council, and other stakeholders to deploy the Akelius application in participation with monastic institutions.
  • Coordinate and support the set-up, pilot, and roll-out phases of the UNICEF-Akelius partnership in participating monastic institutions.
  • Identify technical and pedagogical capacity-building needs and organize, coordinate and support capacity-building activities related to the UNICEF-Akelius initiative in Bhutan.
  • Oversee all partnership development and maintenance, knowledge management, communications, monitoring and reporting activities related to the UNICEF-Akelius initiative in Bhutan.
  • Set up and update a project management tool that includes a timeline, activities, responsibilities, milestones, budget, expenses, risks and mitigation actions, to ensure that the project is completed on time, on budget, and with the expected quality.
  • Update monthly the UNICEF-Akelius Working Group partnership with key project implementation and progress information.
  • Document the planning, testing, and delivery of the Akelius platform, including challenges, good practices, and lessons learned.
  • Organize quarterly update meetings and joint monitoring visits with stakeholders (Dratshang
  • Lhentshog, Monastic Education Council, UNICEF and the implementing school Principals).
  • Technical and operational support to implement any other education intervention when required.
  • Support in any other digital learning intervention including FLN activities, implemented by UNICEF Bhutan Office.
  • Apply innovative approaches and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with internal colleagues and partners to collect, analyze and share information on implementation issues.
  • Any other Education project-related support required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced degree in social science, education, applied second language acquisition, monitoring & evaluation, business, technology, economics, statistics, communication or other relevant fields.
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at the national or international level in project management, humanitarian response and international development, technology for education, language instruction, or a related field. 
  • Strong, demonstrated ability and experience in project management, coordination, working with multiple stakeholders, and under pressure is required.
  • Experience in English language teaching would be an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of technology trends, educational technology, and enterprise software development would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with new approaches to real-time monitoring using mobile technologies would be an advantage.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.  Good knowledge of Dzongkha is an asset. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Remarks:

This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is:a role with direct contact with children, works directly with children, is a safeguarding response role. Additional vetting and assessment for elevated risk roles in child safeguarding (potentially including additional criminal background checks) applies.
