Better Shelter is a humanitarian nonprofit organization that specializes in developing, producing, distributing, and supporting shelter solutions that can be used as temporary shelters in humanitarian responses due to wars and natural disasters. Better Shelter has delivered 77,000 shelters to 78 countries and improved the living conditions of more than 350,000 people. About the role

As a part of the product team, reporting to the Head of Product, you will be developing new products and parts for Better Shelter’s product portfolio, working with internal and external architects, engineers, and suppliers to create concepts that align with the company’s product strategy, and implementing sustainability measures to reduce the product’s overall CO2 emissions. While developing a new product line, you will also be preparing technical documentation, developing prototypes, evaluating concepts, managing CAD systems as well as creating BOMs and follow the cost of parts. You will also be expected to travel to sometimes exposed or dangerous areas. Better Shelter has a security policy in place as well as additional insurance and you may be offered external training (Hostile Environment Awareness Training).

Qualifications and experience

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, design & product development, or similar
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience consisting of product development of physical products, construction of parts and in different production techniques (stamping, injection molding, extrusion, sheet metal, etc.) 
  • Experience in CAD (solid works or similar), Adobe Creative Suite, PDM systems and MS Office
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.

About the employment

You will be employed directly by Better Shelter, and the job is full-time (100%). You will be covered by a collective agreement that includes provisions such as 30 days of vacation and additional health insurance. The position is on-site, and you will be offered flexible working hours and international travel, sometimes to exposed areas. The starting date is as soon as possible, according to an agreement.
