About the Role
AIIB investment projects aims to promote sustainable economic growth and reduce regional disparity. Due to the complexity of the environments in which these projects are implemented adverse impacts are often generated on the local communities. To address the concerns of the stakeholders, AIIB requires clients to establish Grievance Redress mechanisms (GRM). GRM promotes a reliable method through which project affected people can raise their concerns and find effective solutions. 
OSD is planning to undertake a portfolio review regarding GRM in AIIB projects. The intern will provide research assistance to specialists in carrying out the portfolio review.   


Responsibilities:
•    Assess the key ingredients of GRM accounting for the following factors
-    Commitment of the implementing agency in operating a GRM
-    Is the GRM proportional to the risks, method of registering complaints, speed at which it resolves complaints, independence, ease of access, was the GRM created in a participatory spirit etc
-    Analysis of GRM data and developments
-    Communication in relation to GRM
-    Overall lessons learned from GRM and noting recalibration of project activities or processes based on lessons.
•    Identify the key channels through which grievances are raised based on project documents and discussion with staff and consultants.
•    Coordinate with AIIB’s local consultants to (i) carry out discussions with field level Grievance Redress Committee members and officials to understand practical operational aspects of GRM and compare with initial GRM design; (ii) obtain information on how GRM was accessed by PAPs during COVID and comment on the practicality of remote GRM; and (iii) carry out discussion with PAPs about their experience of using GRMs .
•    Map the stakeholders involved in operationalizing a successful GRM.
•    Assessment of the role of technology in aiding the GRM process

 

Requirements:
•    Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program, preferably specialized in Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy.
•    Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills. 
•    Experience of contributing to and drafting research papers, reports, and proposals.
•    Ability to coordinate with various stakeholders including government officials, MDBs, NGOs.
•    Fluent in oral and written English.
