DRC is looking for a highly qualified and capable Shelter Engineer for activities in eastern Ukraine, based in Mariupol.
Who are we?
DRC/DDG implements activities in eastern Ukraine to assist internally displaced and conflict-affected persons. DRC/DDG field offices are located in Mariupol, Slovyansk/Severodonetsk, and the head office is located in Kyiv. Activities include child protection and psychosocial support, legal assistance, shelter repairs, livelihoods support, capacity building of duty bearers and mine action.
Donors include OFDA, GIZ, UNHCR, EU and UNICEF. DRC/DDG Ukraine is currently transitioning from emergency activities to activities of a recovery/development nature aiming for durable solutions. For shelter, these include a mix of heavy repairs, new construction and repairs to multi-story buildings in villages along the contact line under GIZ funding. The project will use an integrated and comprehensive approach to ensure effectiveness and sustainability of the Intervention, specifically by drawing on the technical expertise of the DRC Legal Assistance and the DDG Mine Action units. The planned Intervention is aimed at achieving durable housing Solutions in areas where DRC Shelter is already operational and scale up in areas where other DRC-DDG complementary programmes are ongoing. DRC/DDG is further investigating the possibility to tackle the issue of social housing for the most vulnerable IDPs in places of relocation.
About the role
The overall purpose of the SE is to conduct technical assessments of damages and provide accurate BoQ and SoW in line with the damages assessed. The SE will provide the supervision and monitoring of DRC’s construction activities. The SE will obverse’s the quantity and quality of works to ensure construction projects proceeds safely, accurately and smoothly. The engineer will be required to create project schedules and works closely with contractors to assure the work is done properly and on time. The SE will meet regularly with all of the parties involved, including the contractors and the beneficiary, to provide status updates, answer questions and trouble shoot construction related issue when they arise. Because the engineer is so involved in all aspects of the project, the engineer will spend a large percentage of time in the field monitoring construction activities. The SE will monitor all activities at the construction sites and strives to ensure construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to. Inspects construction site daily and works with contractors to schedule deliveries to work plan. The SE will calculate BoQ and SoW at certain milestones for the approval of contractors payment.
The Shelter Engineer (SE) must have thorough knowledge of the Building Code of Ukraine. He/she performs essential engineering works within DRCs area of operation at field level.

DRC will offer the successful applicant an employment contract starting ASAP for 3 months initially, renewable dependent on funding and performance.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Ukrainian residents. This position is classified at level B of Ukraine National Salary Scale.
