 ABOUT THE JOB

The Community Engagement Officer will facilitate the implementation and delivery of the Danish Demining Group (DDG)’s Armed Violence Reduction, Community Safety and community engagement activities, and will work under the direct supervision of the national Senior Project Officer (AVR). The CM will be primarily responsible for organizing and providing community-led mobilization and youth empowerment activities to project beneficiaries, including training design and –delivery, assessments, monitoring and follow-up. DDG is the specialized Humanitarian Mine Action unit within the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

 Responsibilities:

  • Regular liaison and interaction with the targeted communities: including contacting communities and visiting project sites, organizing and holding meetings with the communities and their leaders.
  • Beneficiaries selection, registration of communities, youth leaders and community mediators.
  • Field work, including supervision of AVR activities.
  • Assists the AVR/Community Safety team in data collection and dissemination of information.Basic reporting tasks.
  • Participates in need assessments, Participatory Rural Appraisals, feasibility studies, stakeholder analyses and community consultations.
  • Elaborates all needs based inputs and all other activities per the objectives of the programm and the beneficiary involvement strategy in community safety initiatives.
  • Mobilizes the community in the effective use of the community resources.Ensures, through daily dialogues and consultations, that the strategy followed by AVR and the commitments of the various stakeholders.Works closely with the DRC and DDG staff, including Hub Officers, to arrange, conduct and follow up on training and other activities
  • Assists the Senior Project Officer (AVR) in conducting regular monitoring and reporting. Keeps the Senior Project Officer (AVR) updated on the progress of the training and any issues that may arise during the course of the implementation that need senior management attention.Updates the Senior Project Officer (AVR) on any information related to security in the field.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Senior Project Officer or senior management of DDG
ABOUT YOU
 To be successful in this role you must have:
 
Experience and technical competencies:
  •  At least 3 years of work experience in community mobilization, youth empowerment or community engagement projects, or other relevant area Experience in developing and implementing participatory projects and training.
  • Strong analytical, creative and technical skills in community assessments.
  •  Knowledge of and experience working with IDPs/returnees in Afghanistan.Ability to think outside the box and put beneficiaries and stakeholders at the center of activities.Ability to set priorities and to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Education:University degree in Social Sciences, Political law or any other relevant degree Qualified females are strongly encouraged to apply.

Languages: (indicate fluency level)
  •  Good knowledge of English Fluency in Pashto and Dari

We offer: DRC-DDG will offer the successful applicant a contract till end of 2018, extendable based on funding and performance. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with NTA Salary Scale
