Your team
Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation, the Unit covers all Agency research and development activities related to Navigation; this includes the Agency's contribution to Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Support to Deployment and Research projects requiring the expertise available in the Unit.
Your role
The successful candidate will perform the following tasks under the responsibility of his superior:
- lead the technical support of PBN implementation in terminal airspace projects by
- undertaking critical reviews of airspace concepts using PBN;
- integrating airspace needs and PBN capabilities, writing technical documents for operational personnel and undertaking data analysis and translating it for operational use in support implementation.
- developing, sharing and transferring PBN implementation knowledge/lessons learned with authority, as related to Standard Departure and Arrival Routes (SIDs/STARs), by drafting guidelines, giving presentations to relevant stakeholders, organising workshops, etc.;
- formulate, deliver and/or review PBN training at IANS (Institute of Air Navigation Services) in support of PBN and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) courses and in PBN Airspace Concept Workshops;
- support stakeholders to manage and implement the planning and coordination of PBN terminal and en route airspace change activities as well as to establish priorities and develop the capacity to adapt to a changing environment;
- contribute to the development and consolidation of the ePBN portal;
- engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders through presentations of validated PBN solutions, production and dissemination of reports, technical documents, etc.;
- share expertise and participate actively in internal and external meetings;
- perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies
- Completed university studies of 4 years in a relevant domain (Aviation, ATM).
- A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in navigation (Airborne, Regulatory or ANSP) in airspace planning, procedure design or engineering. Relevant experience of more than 5 years will be considered an asset.
- Experience in the following is required:
- Performance-based Navigation (PBN) use in airspace change, including route placement and route planning.
- Implementing PBN projects in coordination with a wide-range of stakeholders, notably airspace and procedure design specialist related lo PBN SIDS/STARs.
- Sharing and transferring PBN implementation knowledge related to SIDs/STARs to other experts within and outside the Unit.
- Reporting, technical drafting and data analysis.
- Knowledge of air traffic management.
- Understanding of En Route and Terminal Concept Development and contextualising PBN in these developments.
- Understanding in navigation avionics supporting navigation application, navigation functions of the flight management system and European PBN regulatory environment.
- Understanding of ATM and Airborne Navigation systems, preferably acquired working for an ANSP or Regulator.
- Technical drafting skills in English.

- The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular post, candidates must have a thorough command of English and a satisfactory knowledge of French to the extend necessary to perform the advertised duties.

- The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year(s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
- The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
